Become a Trustee

About Us

The Engineering Trust (The Trust) is a registered charity (Company number 01706333; Charity number 287075). Its mission is to champion engineering in schools, promote engineering as a career pathway and celebrate young people in engineering.

The Trust works with schools, colleges, employers and other organisations to promote engineering as a vocation. The Trust also uses its resources to reward achievement, particularly in the area of Engineering Apprenticeships. Engineering Trust Training Limited (ETT) (Company number 02423523) is the wholly owned subsidiary of The Trust and the vehicle by which The Trust delivers Engineering Apprenticeships. Trustees take a governance role in the operation of ETT.

Opportunity

Joining our Trustee team allows you to play an important part in overseeing and setting the future direction of The Trust and governance of ETT.

Involvement

  • 6 regular Trustee meetings per annum which generally last 2 hours in duration and held in Bicester, Oxfordshire.
  • Trustees attend the AGM in addition to the regular Trustee meetings.
  • The Trust has adopted the AELP Code of Good Governance for Independent Training Providers to give structure to its governance of ETT. Each Trustee leads on one (or more) of the seven areas of Governance which involves completing a deep dive into that area of ETT’s operation.
  • Trustees attend other events, such as awards evenings, training events and staff meetings where appropriate and, from time to time, attend school career events to support The Trust’s work.
  • Trustees provide support to ETT where they have specific areas of expertise, e.g. HR knowledge. The Chair of the Board of Trustees also reviews any internal complaints, should such matters arise.
  • The Trustees review annual budgets and accounts for both The Trust and ETT.
  • The Trustees provide input into key recruitment decisions affecting ETT e.g. appointment of the Chief Executive and other senior managers.

Trustees are generally professional individuals who have the drive and motivation to support the development and growth of people, in particular, young people and mature learners who wish to follow a career in manufacturing or engineering. Knowledge of either Engineering, Apprenticeships, Engineering Training, Schools, Colleges or FE environments is essential however more importantly, a desire to promote engineering and willingness to give time to the organisation is required.

Trustees do not receive any remuneration however, reasonable expenses may be paid where appropriate.
