Abrasive Wheels
This course is designed to provide staff with the knowledge to safely operate and replace abrasive wheels in accordance with good practice. Abrasive Wheels are covered by the PUWER 1998 Regulations and by HSE Guidance (HSG17 2000) Safety in the use of abrasive wheels.
Course Description
This half day course is designed for employees and apprentices who change and mount abrasive wheels. The course will cover all aspects of the safe use of abrasive wheels. Abrasive Wheels are covered by the PUWER 1998 Regulations and by HSE Guidance (HSG17 2000) Safety in the use of abrasive wheels.

Course Aims
By the end of the course attendees will have learnt to:
- Avoid hazardous abrasive wheel operations
- Identify the components and characteristics of an abrasive wheel
- Demonstrate the safe use of abrasive and grinding wheels
- Explain requirements under the Health and Safety at Work Act and other relevant legislation with regard to abrasive wheels.
Learner Objectives
- How to operate abrasive and grinding wheels safely
- Responsibilities as imposed by regulations governing the use of abrasive wheels
- The functions of various types of abrasive wheel
- Understand the importance of wearing the correct personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to identify and report faults of unsafe conditions which will impede the safe use of abrasive wheels
